Can You Really Make Money With Amazon Niche Websites ?
If you watch the sales page video for Niche Profit course you get a pretty good idea what you get in this course. One thing I like about Chris Guthrie is that he seems upfront and honest. There is not much hype in his pitch and you get the feeling that he really is telling you exactly what he does to make the money he is making.
With this said, the mini site case study that he goes through in module 7 doesn’t make a heck of a lot of money so he would need plenty of these sites to make 60 grand a year (the amount he says he makes a year). But to be honest, who would show off their best sites and he does say that the authority sites that he creates are much more profitable.
So in this Niche Profit Course review I will go through each module with the good and bad bits as I see them. Hopefully it will give you a good idea of whether you can make money with Amazon niche websites if you follow this course. Chris welcomes you to the course and explains how to get the best out of it. It’s about 23 seconds of video.
Resources :
Another short video (1.38) about the extra tools and resources that Chris uses to make his Amazon sites. This includes reviewazon and even a plugin for ebay. He monetizes his sites with Amazon, Ebay and Adsense. He also mentions the autoresponder, hosting, domain name register that he uses.
The only items that are absolutely necessary if you want to make a website is the domain name and hosting. These will cost you extra money. The domain name is about $10. The hosting is about $10 a month.
All the other items aren’t strictly necessary they just make your job easier or quicker. I don’t use any of them myself but I may do in the future. My advice on these items is, if you want to get them then use the money you have made from your sites to fund these expenses.
Another resource that he mentions is his own Azon wordpress theme. This is a good looking theme and is one of the reasons I bought the course. There are lots of make money with Amazon type courses but not many that throw in the theme that the creator is using to make his money. At the time of writing this Azon theme was free.
Module 1: The Basics
The video is 8.27 minutes. It covers the basic strategy that Chris uses to make money with Amazon. It’s not a new or original idea. Most people do this for niche sites. But he gives you his spin and understanding on how and why this strategy works.
Module 2: How To Find A Good Niche
This video is 22.58 long. It talks about finding a niche, evaluating competition in this niche and whether you can make money. Again, most courses on creating money making websites covers this topic. Chris gives his ideas on this including brainstorming ideas if you have absolutely no idea what to create a website on. He gives the numbers he believes, in terms of monthly searches and competition, that makes a project viable.
He also covers commercial intent of the niche. He discusses what makes a good keyword to target once you have a niche. This is very important to understand and the type of words that you target depend on the type of monetization you have on your website.
Module 3: How To Set Up An Income Generating Blog
This video is 8.29 minutes long. It is basically about setting up a wordpress blog and installing the Azon theme that comes with the course. It is aimed at people that have never set up a blog before and explains all about getting a domain name and hosting. It then goes on to show you how to set up a wordpress blog on the hosting.
Module 3b: How To Customize Azon Theme
As the title says, this shows you how to set up the Azon theme as Chris does on his niche sites. The video lasts 16.52 minutes. I am creating sites at the moment using this theme and his recommended layout to see how they convert compared to my other Amazon sites.
Also, if the comments are anything to go by, the Azon theme is being improved and added on all the time which current owners of the theme will get for free.
Module 4: How To Write Content For Your Blog
Writing content is the hardest part of any website in my opinion. Well, it’s not hard as such but it takes a long time and is seemingly never ending if you want to keep your blog current.
This video is 7.31 minutes long. It covers the type of content Chris thinks should be on niche mini sites and bigger authority style sites. It seems to focus more on getting ideas for content rather than how to write the content. It also covers how to get other people to write the content via outsourcing.

Module 5: How To Make Money
This video is the heart of the course. It is Chris Guthrie’s tips and tricks on how to get people buying products from Amazon. It lasts 37.03 minutes and is pretty good.
Chris has gained his insights based on his experience of creating Amazon style sites for over a year. Part of this experience was being very meticulous with the amazon tracking ids. You can get 100 tracking ids from Amazon and they basically allow you to monitor what people that come onto your site do. So based on the tracking ids, he could study the best links to use on a site to get click thrus to Amazon.
He also gives some other invaluable insights and examples if you want to make the most out of the traffic that visits your website. This includes taking advantage of heavy buying periods and even building a list. This is a highly recommended video.
Module 6: How To Build Links And Get Traffic
After a point in time, building sites becomes easy and the hardest part of your job is promoting the site and actually getting visitors to your site. This is a problem that everyone faces, whether they have a website, a physical store or whatever. This is the marketing part of the job. Marketing your site.
Chris gives you his methods of generating traffic and getting visitors. Again, it is nothing particulary new but it is his take on the process.
All his traffic comes from free sources and is mostly SEO traffic. So he covers basic on site SEO. He then covers 4 promotional methods that will get people to come to your site directly and will also make Google and the other search engines rank your sites higher in their listings which will get more traffic too.
He is basically talking about link building here and the more diverse your links are the more favorable your website will be seen by Google and the others.
The video comes in at 19.14 minutes.
Module 7: Live Mini Site Case Studies
This is a 23.49 minute video that shows off an example of a niche style website that he creates. This site has been featured throughout the course so the name and site will not be such a surprise. But he does take you behind the scenes, so to speak, to show you the ranking, the number of visitors and the amount of money the site makes.
People like these kind of videos because it gives them a bit more faith in the person and shows them exactly what needs to be done to be successful. Most people entering into internet marketing or whatever you want to call it, don’t believe they can do it or have faith in the system. Videos like this are helpful in changing their belief values. So it’s a good video I would say.
Module 8: Live Authority Site Case Study
This 7.30 minute video is similar to the previous video in that it shows you how to do it and shows how easy it is to do it. It should boost anyone’s confidence that they can succeed in making Amazon affiliate style sites.
Module 9: More Live Website Case Studies
This covers other niche websites – 8 actually. They are not his sites but sites that he thinks are similar in style or strategy as his own. It’s good to get his insights into evaluating the competition and success of these sites. The video goes for 10.08 minutes.
Module 10: Niche Profit Course Wrap Up
The message behind this last video (2.41) is to take action. And this is so true. Believe that you can do it and see the job through. With a bit of personal success there will be no stopping you. Making money with the Amazon affiliate program is really that easy provided you stay the course.
Bonus Module: Outsourcing
An 11.37 minute video. It gives you some resources that you can use to get outsource workers. It also gives you a script and plan to select a full time worker. It explains some of the advantages of a full time worker too.
Bonus Module: Buying Domain Names After Market
The video is 9.32 minutes long. Shows you how to find the owner of a domain name that you might want and how to approach them. He gives you some insight on how to get a deal.
This video and the previous one are for more established people that are making good money.
Summary of Niche Profit Course
Overall, I think this is a good course and it will help you make money with the Amazon affiliate program and small niche sites. The author seems to be very responsive to issues and problems that readers may have and seems to genuinely want to help people. This is quite rare in the internet marketing course niche in my experience.
One gripe I have about the Niche Profit Course is that it is only a video course. I think it would be better if you have a PDF document to look at from time to time too. There are some notes below each video which pretty much summarize the videos but being able to look at the whole process in one document would be better for me. I guess you could take the notes and put them in a document and add your own notes too.
On a more positive note, below each video is a comments section. People can ask questions on anything or about the video itself. Chris provides great support by answering all the questions. I asked a question and got a response within a couple of hours. So I think this is a really good feature of the course and keeps the author connected to the buyers of the course. Support is good in other words.
Another thing that I liked about the course is the free Azon theme. It’s a good looking theme and it seems that Chris has continual plans to improve and expand the theme based on his own experience with it and even comments from other users.

UPDATE : The Niche Profit Course was updated in December 2011 so it is now known as Niche Profit Course V2. As far as I can tell, the content has not changed that much. 2 case study videos have been changed or updated to show that his methods are still working.
That’s a problem with videos for the creator and viewer. It’s hard to edit them with new information for the creator. And it’s a pain for the viewer to go through all the videos again, looking for anything new.
I looked at a few of the new videos and they seemed the same. Maybe Chris could correct me on that. I also didn’t receive an email that the product had been updated which might have told me what had changed.
Anyhow, I’m not whingeing about the product. It’s still a good course on how to make Amazon websites.
The obvious changes that I can see are that it is now easy to download the videos. This is a good addition as you don’t want to use up your internet usage watching the same videos over and over again. Now you only have to download it once and watch without connecting to the internet.
Another change in V2 is that the comments have been closed. This was a nice feature in V1 as you could ask Chris questions and he would answer them. You could also see other peoples questions, which were often the same issues you were talking about. You can’t seem to do this anymore which is a shame. I know he mentioned that he is trying to move away from hands on support this year so maybe this is why the comments have been closed.
